Sky Says
Просмотров 1055 лет назад
Poem by Ben McGuire Photograph by Billy Kenrick (billykenrick.com/) These be the words: Sky Says You’re threading a way, leaves dark on white above, when something bolts at your crackling step and the sky says, Run. You run like water, heart thudding and legs reaching through the forest over roots and rocks, in and in, to anything - to this hacked clearing. Where you stand, staring - wondering ...
Still Never

Poem by Ben McGuire Photograph by Billy Kenrick (billykenrick.com/) These be the words: Still Never He’s still going. He’ll never be gone. You can cohabit with any absence. Those two bell notes judder, circle on in and back out of time: wrong; wrong. Flat space, it trembles back into abscess. He’s still going. He’ll never be gone. The bear hug of his after-life: the song shouted between us fini...

best statement ever at the very end of this. 'Why should I be ashamed of it' The contempt in the question is typical of West Brit constructed morality.

It is a strange thing that Ireland has produced so many gifted writers, poets and music people, perhaps it was the acute angle that a people perched on the periphery of the great empire of England that produced so much commentary, and ironic truth. A poor folk that were rich beyond the dreams of narrow bureaucrats, I'm not sure yet, but these were at least interesting men.

It's 3.30am but I couldn't tear myself away from this documentary. 😢 I had tears in my eyes seeing the young Patrick Kavanagh on the First Bloomsday video. I'm so glad to know he was a gentle, warm-hearted man. I love the man for the poetry he brought to a young Monaghan girl, 50 years ago when I first learned his poems foe Inter and Leaving. They stayed with me and bring me much pleasure and joy still.

Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan & Flann O'Brien 3 of the many great storytellers, playrights, tall stories poets from the Emerald Isle who loved to take a drink, sit at t he bar and smoke a cigarette or pipe and chats with the people who passed by. People talked about them all the time when they were alive and will continue to talk about those people forevermore. It will not be long before the saintly Phil Lynott is joined up with those very fine people. Phil had many God-given gifts and been a brilliant storyteller, prophet, poet, singer-songwriter, leader of the gang, man upfront and the greatest rocker of all times and that is a recorded fact

7:18 Patrick Kavanagh I'd be interested if there is more of him singing somewhere on RUclips ?? He sings the first verse a little different from Luke Kelly On the Raglan Road on an autumn day I met her first and knew_ That her dark hair could weave a snare_ that I might one day rue; I saw the danger, yet I walked_ upon the enchanted way, And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf_ at the dawning of the day. -

My father played the melodeon Outside at our gate, There were stars in the morning east And they danced to his music. Across the world bogs his melodeon called To Lennons and Callans As I pulled on my trousers in a hurry I knew some strange thing had happened. Outside in the cow-house my mother Made the music of milking, The light of the stable-lamp was a star And the frost of Bethlehem made it twinkle. A water-hen screeched in the bog, Mass-going feet Crunched the wafer-ice on the polt-holes - Somebody wistfully twisted a bellow's wheel. My child-poet picked out the letters On Time's black stone, In silver the wonder of a Christmas townland The winking glitter of a frosty dawn. Cassiopea was over Cassidy's hanging hill. I looked and three whin bushes rode acoss The horizon - the Three Wise Kings. My father played the melodeon, My mother milked the cows And I had a prayer like a white rose pinned On the Virgin Mary's blouse. Patrick Kavanagh
